What bacteria is causing that disease?  Doctors and medical technologists try to determine this by taking a swab from the patient and then growing the bacteria on a medium such as blood agar on a petri plate. After incubation (a warm humid place), the bacteria grow in colonies. The process to identify the bacteria then can take a great deal of time and intensified process. Now, a special machine has been invented to culture these bacteria and then to illuminate them with certain spectra of light. Cameras feed the color and shape of the colonies to a computer where the detailed differences can betray the variety or strain of the bacteria quickly.  See and read more at: https://sciworthy.com/machine-learning-through-bacterial-fingerprints/
